The 9 member Board of Education is elected by residents of Cornwall Central School District, who are 18 years of age or over, citizens of the U.S.A., and a resident of the school district for at least 30 days. In addition, a qualified voter must be registered with Orange County Board of Elections and/or the Cornwall School District. Members serve without salary and are responsible for policy making and overseeing a public school district's affairs, personnel, and properties. Each is elected for a term of 3 years.
Elections are held annually. Board meetings are open to the public and are held on the fourth Monday of each month with the exception of July, August, September, and December at 7:00 pm in school buildings in the district.
