FAMILY EDUCATIONAL RIGHTS AND PRIVACY ACT (FERPA) (pdf file - 127 KB)
Because of the growth of record keeping and the related privacy concerns, Congress enacted the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act in 1974 (“FERPA”). FERPA essentially establishes procedures and guidelines for parent and student access to student records, and further restricts third-party access to those records.
