After-school Activities

  • After-school Activity Program

    Coordinators: Ms. Elise Michaels

    Time: 2:55pm -3:55pm

At CCMS, we are pleased to offer students a wide variety of extra-curricular activities. We believe that by engaging and enriching students after-school, and helping them develop interests that reach beyond their academic day, we can help meet the social, emotional, physical and academic needs of young adolescent students in a supervised and fun environment.

The Middle School offers two levels of activities for students in grades 5 through 8; our original program and a seasonal after-school program. All of our extra-curricular programs run from dismissal until 3:55PM.

The following clubs are year-long and generally meet once a week. Students may take the 4:00PM late bus home. Some examples of clubs that fall into this category are as follows:

    • Student Activities Council
    • Yearbook Club
    • Polar Bear Running Club
    • Newspaper Club
    • The CCMS Drama Club operates on a special schedule that is distributed by the club advisor.

    Seasonal Clubs and Activities

Seasonal clubs and activities are for all students in grades 5-8. Clubs take place from 2:55pm - 3:55pm. Our clubs program is offered during the three different seasons throughout the year (fall, winter and spring).

Activity offerings will vary per season based upon student interest and advisor availability. Due to safety reasons, some club/intramural enrollments may need to be filled by a lottery system if the enrollment requests exceed the maximum number of students allowed per activity.

Our daily announcements are the best way for parents and students to keep up-to-date with all of our after-school activities.

    Questions:

How will I know what clubs are being offered?

Student interest will be gauged by an informal interest survey conducted during the school day. After determining which clubs have sufficient interest, every student will receive a permission slip to sign up for a club.

How many clubs can my child participate in?

Students have the opportunity to be involved in multiple activities after school depending upon which activities they choose, as space and student schedule allow.

Do students have to participate in both the intramural and the club programs?

Not at all. Students can choose as few activities as they want, or as many activities as scheduling will allow.

What if I have an idea for a club?

Students who have an idea for a club may speak to Mrs. Polumbo.

If a student plans on trying out for one of the athletic teams, how will this affect his/her participation in the club and activity program?

One of the best parts of the expanded program is that it is divided into three seasons. So, if a student is involved in soccer in the fall or drama in the winter, he/she can still join a club or intramural during one of the other two seasons.
