• Welcome to Cornwall Central Middle School!  We are delighted to have you on our team this year. Mrs. Young will be your teacher for English Language Arts (ELA) and Social Studies. Mr. Cassel will be your teacher for Math and Science. The following handbook contains our expectations and procedures for the 2023-2024 school year.

    Our Classroom Expectations:

    1. Be Prompt: Be on time to class.

    2. Be Prepared: Bring all required materials to class.

    3. Be Productive: Complete and hand-in assignments on time. Keep your desk and locker neat.

    4. Be Positive: A positive attitude goes a long way!

    5. Be Polite: Treat everyone the way you would like to be treated.

    Mr. Cassel’s Homework Policy:

Homework reinforces what we learn in class. Math homework will be assigned nightly and science homework will be assigned about once a week. Homework is typically not assigned on Fridays.

Assignments for homework will be either review of past material, practice of concepts currently being taught in class, completion of class work, or an ongoing project.  Homework is expected to be completed with thoughtful effort and handed in on time. Students are responsible for writing homework in their planners and transporting homework materials to and from class.  Homework will be checked at the beginning of the class period.

    Our Team Procedures

    Newsletters:

Mrs. Young and Mr. Cassel will be emailing newsletters to families to keep you up-to-date with upcoming assessments, announcements, and future events.

    Grades:

Grades from all assignments will be averaged equally.

    Tests/Quizzes:

Upon completion of a unit there will be an assessment. All tests and quizzes will be announced in advance and all topics will be reviewed prior to an assessment. Study guides are often provided as well. If a student is absent on the day of a test or quiz, they should be prepared to take the test or quiz on the day they return.

    Projects:

Students will be responsible for completing projects throughout the year.  Projects are a wonderful opportunity for them to highlight other special skills they possess and their chance to shine!

    Absent Work:

Students are required to make up any work they miss during an absence.  They will need to check their mailbox for any work they may have missed. Upon completion of this work, it is their responsibility to show their teacher the completed work. Students have the same number of days as they were absent to complete the work they missed.

    Bathroom Use:

Students will be permitted to use the bathroom as needed. The only time bathroom use is discouraged is during a lesson.

    Lockers/Desks:

Students have a desk in their homeroom and a locker. This is where they will keep their belongings. However, when students switch classes, they will be sharing desktops with students on their team. Students are not to touch any of the belongings in this desk.

    Chromebooks:

Students will be bringing their chromebooks back and forth to school each day. The charging cord will stay at home and they are responsible to charge the computer each night.

    Parent Portal

All test and quiz grades will be recorded on the parent portal. However, students will also bring home their graded tests and quizzes for Mr. Cassel’s classes, and Mrs. Young’s will be completed and posted on Google Classroom.

Contacting us with a question or concern is easy:

Our ultimate goal is to work with students and parents to foster student independence and success in 5th Grade.

Looking forward to an awesome year!
