The 9 member Board of Education is elected by residents of Cornwall Central School District, who are 18 years of age or over, citizens of the U.S.A., and a resident of the school district for at least 30 days. In addition, a qualified voter must be registered with the Orange County Board of Elections and/or the Cornwall School District. Members serve without salary and are responsible for policy-making and overseeing a public school district's affairs, personnel, and properties. Each is elected for a term of 3 years.Elections are held annually. Board meetings are open to the public and are held twice each month with the exception of July and August which sees one meeting per month. Meetings typically begin at 7:00 p.m. at either Cornwall Central High School or Cornwall Elementary School.

● Develop and implement policy, professional development, and practices that support inclusion for all students, staff, and families.
● Continue CCSD’s transition to a one-to-one school district with a focus on embedding instructional practices, student collaboration and engagement through the use of integrated technology within the classroom.
● Advance academic opportunities at all three levels with a focus on K-4 guided reading, K-5 Next Generation Science, and a continued lens to expand high school AP course offerings.
● Provide the leadership necessary for the successful implementation of the CCSD’s first Universal Prekindergarten program.
● Lead the district-wide Health and Safety Committee to ensure the security of all buildings and safety of all students and staff.

- Academic: Support the essential academic curriculum for each grade level as set forth by NYS while staying focused on the social/emotional needs of all students.
- We will: Prioritize students’ needs when planning the 2023-2023 budget with a focus on filling any achievement gaps that may emerge.
- Communication: Show transparency and strengthen relationships with the community by collecting feedback and sharing regular updates about board activities.
- We will: Hold community forums throughout the year.
- We will: Promote visibility and accessibility of all BOE meetings and activities.
- We will: Begin developing a long-term vision document.
- Facilities: Update our five-year plan for the repair and enhancement of our facilities while working to execute the 2022 Capital Project on time and within budget.
- We will: Review and assess the needs identified in the 2021 Building Condition Survey that have not been addressed in the 2022 Capital Project.
- We will: Work with district administration, architects and project management to develop an appropriate schedule to execute the 2022 Capital Project
- We will: Request regular updates from the board's Facilities Committee on each of the above items.
- Financial: Meet the short-term financial needs of the district while being mindful of our long-term fiscal strength.
- We will: Work with the District to craft a sound budget for the 2023-2024 school year.
- Safety: Work closely with the district-wide Health and Safety Committee to ensure the security of all buildings and safety of all students.
- We will: Request periodic updates from board members currently sitting on the district-wide Health and Safety Committee.
- Technology: Support Superintendent Dade to ensure we can meet the evolving educational needs of our students and staff.
- We will: Request periodic updates from the Superintendent on the 1-to-1 initiative.
- We will: Request periodic updates from the Director of Technology on capabilities and information security.
- Oversight: Provide oversight relative to the district's policies and goals.
- We will: Evaluate progress on district and board goals throughout the year.
