    The 9 member Board of Education is elected by residents of Cornwall Central School District, who are 18 years of age or over, citizens of the U.S.A., and a resident of the school district for at least 30 days. In addition, a qualified voter must be registered with the Orange County Board of Elections and/or the Cornwall School District. Members serve without salary and are responsible for policy-making and overseeing a public school district's affairs, personnel, and properties. Each is elected for a term of 3 years.
     
    Elections are held annually. Board meetings are open to the public and are held twice each month with the exception of July and August which sees one meeting per month.  Meetings typically begin at 7:00 p.m. at either Cornwall Central High School or Cornwall Elementary School.

    CCSD Board Goals  SY 2023/24

     

    1.  CCSD Strategic Plan: The board of education is committed to long range planning to build upon the strengths of our district into the future.

    • We will: Partner with the superintendent to construct a roadmap that outlines the process to develop/ pursue a multi-year strategic plan in support of the district’s mission, vision, and values by February 2024.  
    • We will: Create a project plan document that identifies the key tasks, stakeholders/ participants, inputs, resources, timelines, and work required to create a multi-year strategic plan by May 2024.  
    • We will: Provide stakeholder progress updates at our monthly work session meetings throughout the year.  

     

    2.  Board Self - Evaluation: The board of education is committed to exhibiting a continuous improvement and growth mindset.

    • We will: Select appropriate self-assessment tool to include checklist and criteria by December ’23 regular BOE meeting.  
    • We will: Conduct periodic check-ups to share feedback and make real-time adjustments as appropriate.
    • We will: Complete a board of education self-evaluation prior to the regular BOE meeting in June 2024.
    • We will: Review self-evaluation results and recommend steps for improvement at the regular BOE meeting in June 2024.

     

    3. Student Outcomes: The board of education is committed to providing the resources needed for an excellent education, while staying focused on the social and emotional needs of all our students.

    • We will: Partner with the superintendent to review NYS Grade 3-8 Math and ELA assessments, Regents exam results, and other relevant data points to ensure student proficiency levels are progressing with the learning standards.
    • We will: Prioritize students’ needs with a focus on providing appropriate resources to narrow any achievement gaps that emerged due to the pandemic.
    • We will: Partner with the superintendent to further explore the feasibility of providing a UPK program identifying resource, space, and cost requirements as well as the current and future capacity projections of internal and external providers.

     

    4. Positive School Environment: The board of education is committed to ensuring a positive work environment for all students, teachers, and staff.

    • We will: Model positive, respectful, and inclusive behavior and language in our relationships among each other and between the BOE, district administration, teachers, staff, parents, students, and community.
    • We will: Partner with the superintendent to foster an encouraging, respectful, trusting, and caring school community where all have the opportunity to be engaged, connected, and supported.
    • We will: Partner with the superintendent to explore, conduct, and assess an engagement survey of students, teachers, and staff to identify sustainment/ improvement areas and to assess the feasibility of a larger scale data project incorporating the greater CCSD community in the future.
