General Attendance Procedures

        • TARDINESS
          • The school day begins at 7:23am.  Students are considered late to school if they arrive after that time.  A note signed by a parent indicating the reason for late arrival must be presented at the time a student arrives late.  If a student is late to school without a legal excuse two or more times, a referral for detention (to be served two days after the lateness) will be written.
        • ABSENCE
          • Please call or email the CCHS Attendance Office when your child is absent.
          • If your child is going to be absent from school, please inform us by either calling the attendance office at 534-8009, ext. 5009 or emailing at                            (This email is for High School absences only)
          • Remember to give your child’s name, grade, and a reason for the absence.
          • Please note, that New York State requires all absences to be verified in writing.
            • You can email the attendance office on the day of the absence or send in a written note documenting the absence on the day your child returns to school. The note must contain the following information:
              1. full name of student
              2. dates of absence
              3. reason for absence
              4. parent or guardian signature
              5. phone number for reaching parent/guardian at home and/or work

Failure to provide written documentation within three days will result in the absence being considered illegal. If a student is absent without a legal excuse two or more times, a referral for detention will be written. We depend on you to notify us of all absences.

*For a list of legal excuses, please refer to the Attendance Policy on this page or on page 21 of the Student Handbook.

      Sign-out Procedure

      • Please schedule all appointments around the school day.  If this is not possible, and you need to take your child out of school, the following is the procedure:

        • Student must have a note from the parent/guardian giving the reason for and time of dismissal.
        • The note must be brought to the attendance office in the morning before the first period.
        • Student will be given a pass so he/she can be at the greeter’s desk at pick-up time.
        • Parent/guardian only must come in the building, present ID and sign the student out.
        • Students will only be released to those on the emergency contact list.

Students will be dismissed ONLY when the PARENT or GUARDIAN personally comes in to sign the student out.  Notes are to be brought to the attendance office before school begins to ensure that teachers are not interrupted by phone calls during classroom instruction.

If a student returns to school after an appointment, he/she must report to the attendance office to sign in (no need for parents to come back in at this time).

      Students with Driving Privileges

      • If your child needs to leave school from his/her assigned spot in the parking lot, in his/her own vehicle, the following is the procedure:

        • Student must have his/her own vehicle registered at school and legally parked in the high school parking lot.
        • Student must have a note from parent/guardian giving the reason for and time of dismissal. This note must be handed into the attendance office before 1st period begins.
        • Parent/guardian and the school attendance office must make contact via phone or in-person for verbal permission from parent/guardian.

Student will be dismissed ONLY when these requirements are met – NO EXCEPTIONS.

If student returns to school that day, he/she must report back to the attendance office to sign in.

Students are not permitted to drive any other students off school grounds during the school day.
