• Physical Education Classroom Expectations

The objectives of Physical Education in grades 9 through 12 are to provide the knowledge and skills that will enable students to develop and maintain an understanding of the importance of personal physical fitness.

Use of Equipment: Sometimes the gym may be set up for activities of the day. Students are cautioned not to use physical education equipment without permission and proper supervision from his/her instructor. In others words, just because the equipment is out, does not mean you can touch it!

Staff Offices/Equipment Room: These offices are for the use of the professional staff. No one is to enter or use the offices without permission. Even if the door is open!!!

Student Expectations:  Students will be punctual, dressed properly, demonstrate a positive attitude, exert an acceptable effort and follow all rules and classroom procedures.  Students will use only lockers assigned to them by physical education teachers.  Students will bring in a lock and be responsible for all valuables.  Inappropriate language will not be tolerated.

    Locker room and Dressing:

    1. Students are allowed four minutes to dress after the late bell has rung. This should be more than enough time to dress and report to our “floor spots”. If you are not present when roll call is taken, you are late. Do not loiter in the locker room area. Everyone is expected to be dressed for class each day!!

    2. If it is not your scheduled physical education period, you may not use the locker room or physical education equipment.

    3. You are responsible for safeguarding your personal belongings. Always use your own lock and never bring large amounts of money or articles of substantial value to the physical education area. Combination locks are most practical. Food and beverages are not permitted in the physical education area or locker room.

    4. If your possessions are stolen from the locker room, you must report the incident to a security immediately.

    5. Do not use any equipment or begin any activity before the instructor arrives and proper supervision is available. 6.  Any student leaving the physical education area before the bell will be considered to be cutting class.

Attendance:  If you are not in class for any reason, you are absent.  Grades are affected by absences!

    1. Excused absences- You are allowed 2 excused absences each quarter.  Any more than that and you will have to make those up within two weeks.  Classes can be made up during lunch, study hall or after school (Tues./Wed.)…As long as there is an equally acceptable class going at that time.

    2. Unexcused absences- Absences that are unexcused will receive a “0” for that class.

    3. Absences due to quarantine- Students will coordinate with their teacher regarding absences and how to make them up.

Excuses from Physical Education: Make up procedures

    1. To be excused from participation in physical education for a medical reason either for one class meeting or for a longer period the student must receive a note from home and/or a physician and present it to the school nurse before his/her scheduled PE class period. The nurse will then write a pass to be presented to the PE teacher. Verbal excuses by the student to the instructor will not be accepted. The only acceptable medical excuse is a written one from the school nurse. If a student has a medical problem which limits participation in some activities, the note from the doctor should explain that. For example: if a student has an upper body injury, he/she can work in the weight room on the lower body.

    2. Student will be expected to complete written medical assignments for the time they are not allowed to participate. 3. Students will not be excused from physical education class to make up work or take tests in another subject area.

Physical Education Attire: All students are expected to change into acceptable physical education clothing for safe class activity.

    1. Athletic Shoes that tie and athletic socks.

    2. T-shirts with no buttons, zippers, or collars. Sweaters, turtlenecks, and tank tops are unacceptable. Clothing with inappropriate language, graphics, or advertisements are NOT acceptable. Shirts which have inappropriate designs and logos are not acceptable.  Under garments should not be showing. All t-shirts must be long enough not to show midriff when arms are raised. Hair ties are not to be used on clothing. No muscle shirts are allowed.  No hats or hoods. No see through material. Under garments should not be showing.

    3. Athletic shorts are acceptable at a length that reaches to the end of the palm (where the palm meets the fingers) when the shoulders down. Cut-offs or any type of shorts with belt loops are not acceptable for safety reasons. Leggings & yoga pants should not be see through. Under garments should not be showing.

    4. Warm-up suits/sweat suits, may be worn over your regular physical education attire when the temperature and/or activity dictates. These articles of clothing should be worn in addition to your regular PE attire – not in place of.  Wearing jeans or pants under sweatpants is not acceptable and not safe for activity.

    5. Team sport uniforms are not acceptable PE attire! FYI: Athletes who do not participate in PE are not allowed to participate in after school activities that day!

    6. Both for safety and security, students who wear jewelry to school (earrings that dangle or other loose jewelry) should leave jewelry in their classroom or locker before class so that nothing is lost or broken as they play.

    7. Only headgear that is religious in nature will be allowed.

    8. All dress code issues are subject to approval by the PE teacher!

Absolutely no food, drink, and CELL PHONES in the PE class inside or outside (Even if you are not participating).
