• English 9 Advanced

    COURSE GOALS

💡 LEARN: Welcome to high school! This is the start of an exciting journey and I couldn’t be happier to be here to start off your high school career. Although you will have more responsibility, more work, and more accountability, here in high school, I will be here each step of the way to guide you. At any point in the year, whether it is English related or not, please know that I am here to assist you in your acclimation to the high school setting.  Despite the new and shifting landscape of our learning environment, we will grow and learn together this year. With effort, you will become a more active thinker, reader, and writer in this joint endeavor, and I know that I will also grow in the process. You will be required to participate in daily discussions and reflect on such discussions. You will be asked to conduct extensive research, pushing you to read and write often. Effort and hard work will allow you to gain the most this year!

🔗 CONNECT: Beyond connecting with each other- we will also focus on connecting to literature. We will find relevance in the world and to your life today through writing and reading. A list of major texts we will be working with includes, but are not limited to, Fahrenheit 451, Romeo and Juliet, excerpts from, Born a Crime, and The Odyssey. (Please be sure to contact me with any concerns about the nature of these texts.) Along with these texts, we will be reading a plethora of short stories, articles, poems, and other works in order to supplement our discussions and to connect with our world today.

💛 ENJOY: In the end, I hope that you have fun coming to, and participating in this class!
