• English 9 Advanced and English 11 Regents Grading Policy

    Course Grading

    HOMEWORK/CLASSWORK: 5-20 points

    QUIZZES: 20-50 points

    WRITING/TESTS/PROJECTS: 50-100 points

    To foster autonomy and encourage student ownership, the procedure for a student who is unsure about a grade is as follows:

          1. Schedule a student meeting with me (most grade questions can be resolved at this step).

          2. If the grade in question is unresolved after the student-teacher meeting, please feel free to email me or

          schedule a parent teacher meeting.

    PLAGIARISM: Plagiarism will not be tolerated under any circumstance. Using the work of another person or recycling your own work are serious offenses. Any student who plagiarizes will face serious consequences as in: a phone call home, receiving zero credit for the work, and a report to administration.

    The following updates have been made to our 2023-2024 grading policy. In classes where midterms are required this assessment will be 6% of a student's overall grade. Classes that end in finals/regents exams, these assessments will count as 10% of a student’s overall grade. Below lists the breakdown for most full and half year courses.

    Quarters= 21% each, Midterm= 6%, Final Exam/Regents= 10% for a total of 100% of overall course average

    PLAGIARISM AND CREATIVE ORIGINALITY:

    “Originality is the pinnacle of creativity. Often, it is someone’s spontaneous originality that makes us call him/her ‘creative’. Originality, by definition, means producing ideas and products that have not existed before.”  (“Teachers First”) Therefore, since this class is a creative writing course, plagiarism will not be tolerated under absolutely any circumstance. Using the work of another person, recycling your own work, and cheating are serious offenses. Any student that is found to plagiarize or recycle work will face serious consequences, as in, receiving zero credit for the work, as well as a report to administration.

    Quarters= 50% each for a total of 100% of the overall course average
